At each level of a Montessori education, the curriculum builds upon itself, moving from concrete, sensory-based learning to more abstract and interdisciplinary studies. The teaching focuses on five core subject areas: Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language, and Cultural Studies, with the specific activities tailored to the developmental stage of the students.

Detail Group Students

Montessori education groups students by developmental stages into multi-age classrooms, rather than by single 'grade levels' like in a conventional school. This multi-age approach not only enhances early childhood development but also allows older children to act as mentors, reinforcing their own learning while younger kids engage in play activities and learn through observation.

The typical Montessori grade levels and their corresponding age ranges are

  • Infant (Birth–18 months): This level is crucial for early childhood development as babies develop fundamental motor and sensory skills.
  • Toddler (18 months–3 years): The curriculum supports the child's drive for independence, emphasizing movement, language, and practical life skills through engaging kids play activities.
  • Early Childhood or Primary (2.5–6 years): Often referred to as 'Children's House,' this classroom encompasses what is traditionally known as preschool and kindergarten. Here, children refine their skills in practical life, sensorial exploration, and preparation for mathematics and language, all integral to Montessori education.
  • Lower Elementary (6–9 years): Corresponding to grades 1–3, students in this stage are introduced to broader academic concepts through hands-on materials, encouraging them to think more abstractly and engage in reasoning.
  • Upper Elementary (9–12 years): Aligned with grades 4–6, this level emphasizes 'Cosmic Education,' allowing students to explore their place in the universe through integrated studies in math, science, and history.
  • Secondary or Adolescent (12–18 years): Divided into Middle School (12–15 years) and High School (15–18 years), this program provides opportunities for advanced academics and practical life experiences, such as running a micro-economy or participating in community service.
